I also forgot to mention that the Ultra 2 and the stereo cards have 
electret preamps built in as well. You can swap them out in some way for 
your own electret mics if that is what you would like to use. These 
codecs which support electret microphones have good onboard input audio 
buffers with large gain capability - particularly well suited to low 
level signals which you get from microphones.
