[AudioI] AudioInjector Zero no longer being recognized by raspberrypi 4 (Tony Henrie) (Ron Patton)

2nd followup: Well, this morning I fiddled with it some more and adjusted a few settings in PulseAudio’s Volume Control and everything seems to be playing beautifully, both in OAP and in Raspbian under VLC. I’m getting a little jumping and clicking, but I believe that’s a bluetooth issue, since I don’t get it when playing music from the SSD via VLC. It almost sounds like clipping, but I still get it even at low volume levels.

I also discovered that the background interference I was getting was computer noise transmitted through the gpio header. I have a screw terminal HAT mounted on top of the AIZ (I built it with the long pin header), to which I am connecting various gpio controlled relays for the power supply from the vehicle. I can hear various buzzes and sounds that appear to be related to the gpio functions. I hear these when the volume is set to 0. Once I removed that HAT and powered the pi by its USB-C port, the background noises went away.

So, now the configuration is:

- aplay -D hw:0 to set the AIZ as default in alsamixer
	- Ensure output HiFi is selected in alsamixer and that Master is set at the top of the white bar, not above.
- Set all output and input levels at 100% in PulseAudio Volume Control (whether they seem to be connected or not). PulseAudio seems to think the card is a built-in LDPA device.

At any rate, it looks like an issue of OAP’s implementation of PulseAudio may be the problem, although it seems to be working fine this morning. I’ll keep talking to them.

Thanks for your help Ron. I still don’t know what I did differently, but apparently something you suggested got me going the right direction.

It was working fine up until raspberrypi.org <http://raspberrypi.org/> went exclusively to PulseAudio a few months ago, which then induced OpenAuto Pro to also reconfigure for PulseAudio exclusively. The AIZ still works fine under raspbian, when I install Alsa alongside PulseAudio, but when OAP is running the sound level is lower and has a lot of audio interference. As soon as I exit OAP, the sound is fine again. Without PulseAudio, OAP has no volume controls and there is no sound at all. I wish I were better at troubleshooting software, but my knowledge of coding is pretty shallow.

> I?ve had the AudioInjector Zero card since shortly after it was introduced a couple years ago and have enjoyed it. I initially had the card installed under Raspbian/OAP on a raspberrypi 3B, then moved to a rpi4B last year. It was working fine. The card?s hardware configuration was exactly what I needed. The mic input on the card made it possible for me to use it for hands-free telephony under OAP. It was perfect! I was hoping this was just a driver issue and that it would be resolved soon.
>
> OpenAuto Pro is developed by Bluewavestudio.io <http://bluewavestudio.io/>. Maybe a few questions to them from your developers might shed light on the issue. Most of the folks using OAP seem to be using USB dongles for their sound, but the AIZ is a much better option in my opinion. Having the card mounted via a 40-pin header and solid stand-offs is much more robust than a USB connection on a dongle, when you?re talking about installation in a vehicle. I am hoping there is a software/driver solution for this issue that allows me to keep the AIZ card under OAP. Since Raspberrypi.org <http://raspberrypi.org/> went to PulseAudio, I doubt OAP will do anything differently, so I think the ball is in your court.
