Hi Iain,

I don’t know what sort of input connections your preamp has (I don’t believe you mentioned it) and I’m not familiar with any of that software.

The Pro simply presents itself as an ALSA device, like any other ALSA soundcard. If you require differential audio output for your preamp, you’ll get it with the XLR preamp board via the XLR connectors.

Thanks Jonathan,

I think the description "Audio Injector XLR Preamp - Professional-Grade Audio Interface for Microphones and XLR-Based Audio Sources", confused me a little. I didn't initially assume that it had outputs.

My Pi with have the Logitech Media Server running and additionally, squeezelite, to play from the server and send audio to the outputs of the "Audio Injector XLR Preamp".

If that sounds correct I'll place my order for the Pre-amp.

All the best,

Iain

Iain,

The XLR preamp board provides both stereo input and output and is how you interface the Pro with whatever you connect it to. If you want differential audio output, that's the preamp board you buy. If you want single-ended audio like the Stereo provides, you buy the RCA preamp board.

The XLR/RCA preamp board provides the analog preamp stage that interfaces with the CODEC's inputs/outputs used on the Pro.

Hi Jonathan,

So the XLR preamp acts as a complete stereo interface, with stereo output independent of any input?

Hi Iain,

You simply buy the Audio Injector Pro and the XLR preamp board and use XLR to connect unbalanced audio to your preamp like you would anything else.

The preamp board is needed unless you want to roll your own high quality op amp line drivers. The CODEC requires them.

Thanks Jonathan. No, sorry, I should have explained better. I currently have a raspberry pi with a stereo audio injector card. It's connected to a Quad 43 preamplifier and I use it for streaming Tidal. My turntable is also connected to the Quad and I want keep using the preamp. I'm interested in using the Pro audioinjector to make use of its processing of higher sampling rates, specifically, for Tidal's high resolution content, some of which streams at 192kHz. So I need to know how to wire its output to connect with the unbalanced inputs of the Quad 43.

Ian,

There are output boards available, both single-ended (rca preamp) and differential (XLR preamp) boards. It sounds like you have the RCA preamp board. You would simply buy the differential preamp board. Here is the product page and it looks like you can purchase it here.

Actually, what I wrote is probably wrong, at least, if the diagram really does apply to the Pro.

Output 4 is Left out +ve and Output 3 is Right +ve, for balanced, I assume.

Thanks Fausto!

I saw this diagram on github:

So I'd wire the left channel RCA "tip" to Output 1 and the right channel tip to Output 2. Correct? Do the Output pins have a ground or should I wire the RCA sleeves to the GND on the Power pins?

Hi Iain.

Yes. The first two channels are at the left. The left channel on top. Usually.

The card can output stereo.

Hi,

I'm interested in using the new Audio Pro Soundcard for streaming Tidal
with a high resolution account (audio of up to 192kHz, 24bit). For this
I'll be needing only unbalanced audio output from the card to connect to
a stereo pre-amp and power amp.

How should I go about making the audio connections for this, please? Is
it just a matter of connecting a pair of RCA sockets to certain pins on
the "OUT" section of the board?

For my system, the Raspberry with the Pro Soundcard will be running a
Logitech Media Server with a Squeezelite audio player.

Thanks a lot,

Iain
